Bahrain International Airport prepares to transfer operations to new Passenger Terminal on 28 January

Airport operations will be transferred to Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new Passenger Terminal on 28 January, BIA’s operator and managing body, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) announced. The transfer to the state-of-the-art facility is a major step towards achieving the Kingdom’s ambitious Economic Vision 2030 diversification and sustainability goals of developing its position as a financial, cultural, and aviation centre in the region.

The new terminal is one of the most important components of the USD1.1 billion Airport Modernization Program, which is designed to enhance the airport's strategic position, stimulate national economic growth, and drive investment into the Kingdom, in line with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030.

His Excellency the Minister of Transportation & Telecommunications and BAC Chairman, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed emphasized that the launch of the new terminal will be a major contributor to trade, supporting the growth tourism and travel for decades to come. HE the Minister also expressed his confidence that coordination between airport stakeholders will contribute to the smooth transition from the current airport to the new facility.

Spanning 210,000 sqm, the new terminal is four times larger than the existing airport and will increase BIA’s capacity to 14 million passengers a year.
